Pacer Support Guide · Part 6 of 33
Your Watch Is Just a Tool
Pacers rely heavily on their watches — but a flat battery or GPS glitch shouldn’t derail your race. Know your pace and your plan by heart.

On race day, pacers rely heavily on the accuracy of their watches. While tools such as Garmin PacerPro can be invaluable aids, over-reliance on them leads to problems when they malfunction. Remember: your watch is just a tool.
Two things to master#
To ensure a successful race, master these two key points:
- Know your average race pace by heart: the pace you run on your watch will most likely differ slightly from the official pace, as explained in pacing with a watch.
- Know your pacing strategy plan: I cannot emphasise this enough. Together with your pacer coach, you will work out a pacing strategy plan for race day. Make sure you understand why the plan is built the way it is.
With a solid pacing plan, you will stay on track – and even if technology fails, you have a good chance of completing your mission successfully.
