His story
If I can do it, you can do it
Marcel Lennartz is an endurance athlete, certified coach, and well known in the Vietnamese running community. Having first arrived in Vietnam in 1992 and a first assignment at Heineken Breweries in Vietnam in 1995, he is one of the longest-residing Dutch expatriates in the country.
As an IRONMAN Certified Coach (since 2016) and Endurance Sports Coaching Institute (ESCI) Certified Coach (since 2024), Marcel brings decades of personal and practical experience to pacing and athlete development. Having overcome multiple leg operations starting in his youth, including another major surgical setback in recent years, he embodies the ultimate “you can do it” mentality. While his own pace has slowed, his commitment to the sport remains unbroken, and he uses his journey to inspire runners of all abilities.
His multi-sport background includes Challenge Vietnam (2016), multiple IRONMAN 70.3 finishes across Singapore, Phu Quoc and Da Nang, and many marathons and mountain ultras such as the Vietnam Trail Marathon, Vietnam Mountain Marathon and Dalat Ultra Marathon.
Since 2014, Marcel has led RUNCLUB.vn, expanding it into an inclusive hub that welcomes runners of all ages, genders, skill levels and backgrounds — from beginner “Sloths” to fast-paced “Cheetahs.”
An electrical engineer by background, Marcel serves as the General Director of WA Projects Ltd, a British architectural documentation and visualization firm operating internationally. He is also a passionate photographer documenting sports, culture and daily life in Vietnam.
